Declan Courell is originally from Castlebar, Co Mayo now living in Sligo for the last 30 years, He started his musical career playing rock music but was later introduced to Traditional Irish Music when he played in a session associated with a Mayo Fleadh that was held in the town back in the early 1980’s.
Declan employs DADGAD tuning and is well known for his melodic and percussive style of playing. Declan is also a fine singer and is repertoire is both varied and interesting and ranges from songs from folk, country and even pop genres!
Declan is an established session player in the Sligo region and his unique guitar playing style and his choice of songs is popular with both musicians and session goers.
